bio
Seen as the pioneer of the new experimental/minimal house style in France over ten years ago with releases on Brif, ARK has gone on to collaborate with and inspire a multitude of today’s established and rising stars across Europe… and the world !

From his origins as guitarist in a number of 80′s funk bands, most notably Trankilou, where he hooked up with the legend that is Pepe Bradock and onto the great Matthew Herbert & LoSoul with their first collaboration, ‘Belle Lurette’ in ’99. The ‘Alleluyark’ EP series from 2003 reaffirmed as his status as chief protagonist of experimental, groove led house and techno. His 2005 long player on Perlon, ‘Caliente’ won him critical acclaim, which is furthered by his more recent works together with Shalom (as Shalark), Krikor (as Krikark), Cabanne (as Copacabannark), Mikael Weill (as Les Cerveaux Lents) and Dolibox. His cannon of remixes is as long as the channel tunnel, reworking the likes of Stephen Beaupre, Mr. Ozio, Archive, Mossa, Salif Keita, Slabb, Krikor, Fym, Cabanne…

we are happy to announce that cellule eat will release on v.a. klamauk004

bio
Cellule-Eat is born from the encounter and collaboration of two activists of the Paris house scene (Grifin’ & Pit Spector) with a german House fanatic (Tilman Schwarz). This collaborative project extending between studios in Paris and Mainz, provides its own version of Micro-house, avoiding the minimal autobahn and providing atypical, strong, warm and funky beats mangled with melodic samples and noisy glitches. Cellule-Eat’s sound perfectly fits the sonic identity of their new playground, the Paris-based label Minibar Music, and their very energetic live presence definitely deserves the title of ‘performance’ rather than ‘live act’ in the classical (aka boring) sense of the term.

Frivolous is the imaginary personification of my obsession with sound-design for both dancing and living alike. Manifesting itself in a multitude of performances and recorded works, my sound has been described as Jazz-infused minimal or experimental house. Stemming from an educational background in Classical Piano, electronics and Interdisciplinary Design, my “dynamic” one-man performances have taken stage from Montreal to Germany, Moscow to Texas, and many places in between all the way back to Vancouver which was my birth-place. Currently I’m calling Berlin “Home”.

klamauk 003: alphabetti

bio

Leif hails from the beautiful secluded mountains of North Wales, and draws upon these surroundings to inspire his music. In the past few years, Leif has forged a reputation within the underground scene for his trademark sound – a blend of minimal house that encompasses elements of deep dubby techno, bleepy minimalism, delicate chord soundscapes and enough chicago-house style shuffle to to keep the dancefloor moving!

After Leif’s early releases circa 2003 on UK based label Mindtours and Jay Haze’s netlabel Textone, Leif set to work starting his own label Trimsound in partnership with Tom Ellis. Trimsound’s successful vinyl and netlabel has since been host to a number of acclaimed releases including artists such as Pheek, Ralph Sliwinski, So Inagawa, Titta, Apoll, Joe Ellis and more.

During this time, Leif has also accumulated an admirable number of releases and remixes on worldwide labels such as Morris Audio, Moon Harbour, Frankie recs, Thinner, Telegraph, Logistic, True to Form recordings, Fear of Flying records, Textone, Archipel and Floppy Funk; with more releases always in the pipeline. His works have been remixed by the likes of Tom Ellis, Martinez, Two Armadillos, Polder, Jens Bond, Pheek and T-Polar… DJ support has been there from the start from the likes of Daniel Bell, Akufen, Richie Hawtin, Magda, Laurent Garnier and many more.

Leif is known for his dancefloor-freindly DJ sets, which span a wide variety of sounds from deep dubby microhouse through to jackin chicago house and minimal techno, and also plays live with Tom Ellis as “Trimsound Live”

bio
Grifin’ aka Boris Hervot Dlutowski is a music producer resulting from the Parisian commotion. He began music production creating hip hop instrumental loops from tapes cassettes ‘samples and outdated vinyl records. Thereafter, he joined artists’ collectives for the “IDM, Click’n cut & Ambient” project still existing today (whose name remains covert/ concealed). Since 2006, he began electro-minimal and micro-house productions, thus releasing digital EPs on Mischievous, Genesa & Miniatura. In 2007, he co-created Silicate label with Voiski and Thomas Bethmont.

In 2008, he started an impassioned cooperation with Pit Spector (one of the three stooges of Antislash), thus joining the following crews: Minibar, Salon records and Miniatura. Concurrently, he cooperated with Paulice (half of Minitura/Mischievous label) and Scalameriya for projects on Wreckless or Genesa. More recently the two rascals : Pit & Grifin’ have joined forces with Tilman (half of “Just two ordinary people”) for a “sensational micro-house” creation. To be continued…

bio
Le K reps the holy trinity of today’s club landscape: instrumentalist/producer/DJ. Learning to play the guitar seemed to be a good way to fight the atrocities of puberty and listening to the recordings of zany Zappa, arsonist Hendrix, and the LSD-inspired cadence of Pink Floyd and George Clinton helped a bit, too. His first major electroshock came when he acquired a MS20 synthesizer by Korg and began to write short Electrotechnofolk (a genre of his own) with a friend under the intimidating name of Caribousex. Finally, the dawn of 2004 brought a home studio and a commitment to weird, tormented, bleepy twisted House and Techno productions on FORCE INC, Circus Company, Mineral Music, floppy funk, Thema, MBF.

Ahhh anyways, let‘s focus on what I actually should be writing here, something about me, like how I got to produce music and maybe something about my passion for pixels. Of course, one of the first things that come to my mind is the overused phrase preluding almost every second musician‘s vita: „Music always has been his very passion … his main interest was making music from day one, or at least since his very early years …“ and so on … whatever, sounds like absolute bullshit, if you‘re asking me. I just don‘t want to read this crap everytime I look at anything written about any musician. I want to hear stories like: the one time when he fell from the sky, right through the roof of the Owner of the McDonald‘s chain, smashing straight on his head and by bouncing off it, receiving the divine gift of being the magnificent master of music. Yes, exactly, this is just how it happened to me! Actually – no. But it would definitely be cool. In my case, it was, let‘s say, just a bit more complicated and drawn-out. I must have been around 12 years old, back in the days, stealing a pack of SlimFast and selling it for unbeatable 20 Deutschmarks on the black market. My first invest on my „Tchibo Coffee Hohner-Guitar“. I know what you‘re thinking: what the hell has this got to do with anything like a biography? Well, nothing, just listen to my music, one shouldn‘t read the biography of a musician to decide if he likes the music.

bio

Paul Frick was born in Berlin. He started to play the piano at the age of seven and took composition classes since the age of twelve. From 2000 to 2008 he studied composition with Friedrich Goldmann at Universität der Künste Berlin. Paul Frick has written and performed music in various contexts and styles: pieces for orchestra, chamber music (including one short opera), theatre music, music for radio plays (Deutschlandradio Kultur), experimental improvisation. Besides his rather classical music education Paul Frick has always been making pop music as well. On his way to house music, he played guitar in a heavy metal band, tried to be a rapper, played the keys in jazz, r’n'b, hiphop and salsa bands and produced two hiphop albums. A big influence were his bandmates from “Konsens” who made him enthusiastic about 4/4-bassdrums. Lately his EPs on Kalk Pets and 30porumalinha have gained him some attention for achieving complex musical textures and high dancefloor functionality at the same time.

Paul Frick plays live with a groovebox, a sampler and sometimes a keyboard, NO computer. An acoustic house/techno live act is also being elaborated by the trio Brandt, Brauer & Frick and will start performing in early 2009. Do something. Knock on wood. (Photo by Jeannette)

bio

Scott was founded in the summer of 2006 by Jan Brauer and Daniel Brandt with the aim to play soulful minimal music with real instruments. For recording their music they use real drums, a Fender Rhodes and some analogue synthesizers. They also use everything they can find which makes any noise and turn that into percussive patterns. Sometimes they get joined by different singers and guest-musicians. Watch out for their live-performances with electronic drums, keyboards and some more gear. They also get occasional visual-support by the visual artist Julian Schleef with his special Scott live video show.

In 2008 they toured intensively playing about 30 gigs in different countries including: Sonar Festival (Barcelona), Zouk (Singapore), Uebel & Gefaehrlich (Hamburg), Loop (Tokyo), NT Areal (Basel), Watergate (Berlin), Nachtdigital Festival, Triangle (Osaka), Fusion Festival, MIGZ Festival (Moscow), Gewoelbe (Cologne), Kassablanca (Jena), c/o Pop Festival (Cologne), BeCool (Barcelona), Glamset (Salerno), Luxor (Arnheim) and many more. 2009 bookings are now being accepted directly or by their booking agency. tilman schwarz originates from a classic musical family. quite early he also began to play, first in the age of six at the mainzer conservatory (academy of music) on the drums, one year later he went to his first piano lesson. the experienced skills of twelve years playing music made it possible to compose his own. when he decided with seventeen not to play in a band he came in contact with the mainzer clubscene. the housemusic he heard there inspired him to do first experiments with beats on his home computer. in addition to that he began mixing the very housestyle wich fascinated him very much. after 2 years a promomix made tilman a permanent resident at the mainzer fiszbah. pretty soon bookings for the whole rhein main area were following. soon the idea to perform live was born wich he presents with his friend lingling (alias tobias kohls). in the age of 21 he graduadet as an audio engeneer at the german pop in cologne. in june 2008 he foundet the label klamauk with michael fluhr and karsten brommenschenkel.

bio
Introduced to the scene in 2003, with releases on Mindtours and Morris/Audio citysport, he enveloped himself in the world of electronic music and embraced the technology behind it. The natural progression for such a prolific producer was to setup a label, which he did with his best friend Leif, along with the support of his brother Joe and other close friends who inspired him so much. His recent live project with Leif, co-founder of Trimsound, has taken him all over the world headlining some high profile club nights in Tokyo, Cologne, Munich, Budapest, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Leeds, Bristol and more. His unique blend of funked-up, jazz-inspired house and techno can be found on such labels as Logistic Records, Hartchef Discos, Floppy Funk, Mindtours, Frankie, True to Form and many more, including a lot of the growing underground netlabels.

bio
Finchhatten lives in berlin and started producing music in 1998. He released various records in different disciplines and styles from lofi-pop and hip-hop to house music. To him-  the most tempting thing about producing music is trying to find a position in between -  where one can feel house and “his kind of pop” -  joining to become one music-piece. Wich is the most challenging and also the most rewarding for him.
